Louise A. Veverka - Biography

Born and raised in West Long Branch, New Jersey I was the fourth oldest of eight children.  The first to graduate high school at the age of 17, I joined the U.S. Navy seeking a career as a draftsperson.  While working to achieve this impossible goal, the jobs were going to civilians; I was shipped out to Yokohma, Japan to work as a postal clerk.  I kept up my studies and finally became a DMSN, Draftsman Seaman.

While serving overseas I met a sailor stationed on the USS Midway.  A year later we were married and moved to his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

During the years of raising two young daughters I began to use my G.I. Bill benefits to continue my education.  I received an A.A.S. in Architecture and Construction.  One of the required classes for this degree was surveying, once I took this class I knew this was the career for me.

I started working as a draftsperson at Western Reserve Engineering and Surveying where I began to tell anyone who would listen that I wanted to work in the field.  Finally the owners were tired of listening to me and gave me the chance to work outside with the crews.

I worked in the field long enough to qualify to sit for the Surveyors Exam.  This is a two part, two day exam which I passed in 1993.

In 1997 I purchased the assets of a small surveying firm that was about to close its doors and have built it back up, from three employees to the seven we currently have.

I now employ three of my former Western Reserve Engineering and Surveying associates and have one employee that has been with me from the start in 1997.

I have not accomplished this all alone and attribute my success to my family and friends who have always supported me.
